WOOSTER – Wallace R LYTLE, 95, of Wooster, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 in his home.
He was born February 26, 1917 in Apple Creek, the son of Raymond and Gladys Maurer Lytle. He married Catherine M. Allison on December 26, 1941. She died June 9, 2006.
He served as president of Lytle Construction since 1956. Wallace attended Central Christian Church, enjoyed the Wayne County Fair and volunteered at the Smithville Historical Society. He loved his work and spending time with his family. Wallace served his country with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. His first duty during WWII was working on the Alaskan Highway from Mile Zero at Dawson Creek north through Watson Lake with the 341st Engineers Company.
Surviving are his children, Nita (Harold) Downey of Smithville, James W (Georgene) Lytle and John (Lydia) Lytle both of Wooster; grandchildren Andrea (Stephen) Pilotti of Lausanne, Switzerland, Kirsten Downey of Germany, Vance Downey of Springfield, OH, Matthew (Gina) Lytle of New York City, Ashley Lytle of Long Island, NY, Samantha (Jason) Stine, Wallace H., John P. and Janie Lytle all of Wooster; great-grandchildren Allison and Clayton Pilotti and Brayden Stine and a sister, Margaret Fobes of Chicago.
In addition to his wife, Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Faye Marie Lytle in 1997, a granddaughter, Nicole Elizabeth Lytle, brothers Paul and James Lytle and sisters Evelyn Wilson, Pauline Davies, Dorothy Hollingsworth, Nancy Larson and Janet Walker.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 5-8:00 p.m.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Moskowitz officiating. Interment will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.
