Daniel F. Iceman 87, of Wooster died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday April 2, 2012 at St. James Episcopal Church 127 W. North St. Wooster, Ohio 44691 with the Rev. Evelyn Manzella officiating. Burial will follow in Jeromesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm. Sunday April 1, 2012 at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St. Wooster, Ohio 44691 where a Masonic service will be held at 4:30 pm.
He was born June 27, 1924 at Treaton Station, Jeromesville in Ashland County the son of Charles L. and Viola Bowman Iceman. In 1945 he married Phyllis Carr who preceded him in death in 1952. In 1953 he married Shirley Ryneer who preceded him in death in 2007.
Dan attended Elementary schools in Nashville, Ohio and Longfellow School in Massillon, Ohio. He received his junior and senior high school education at Jackson Memorial Township High School in Stark County, where he served as class president for 4 years and graduated in 1942. Dan then served his country in the United States Army from January 1943 until April 1946, with 24 months in Europe. After 28 years of service, he retired from the Army Reserve with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, W-4 in 1970.
He retired from the Gerstenslager Company in Wooster, where he began his career in 1946. In 1978 he was appointed Director of Manufacturing for the Custom Truck and Trailer Division.
Dan had been active in the Veterans Affairs in the city of Wooster, and was a member of the American Legion Post 68 where he was a past commander and was a member of the Reserve Officer Association. He had been a member of St. James Episcopal Church since 1946.
He was very active in the Masonic Lodge where he was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in 1958 in Ebinezer Lodge No. 33, Wooster, and served as Worshipful Master in 1968. In the York Rite he was exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Wooster Chapter No. 27 in 1959 and served as Exellent High Priest in 1974. He was received as a Royal and Select Master in Wooster Council No. 13 in 1971, and was created a Knight Templer in Wooster Commandery No. 48 in that same year. He became a Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton in 1969. He was appointed Captain of the Guard, Brenton Chapter of Rose-Croix in 1972. He was crowned Sovereign Grand Inspector General, Honorary 33rd degree Mason, in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1974. He became a member of Al Koran Temple, Ancient Arabic Order, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in 1973 and was a member of the Wooster Shrine Club. Dan was also a member of Wooster Chapter No.270 Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Allied Masonic Degrees of the United States, the Royal order of Scotland, Knight Masons of Ireland and National Sojourners. He was also the Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of Illinois near the Grand Lodge of Ohio. In 1969 he was appointed District Deputy Grand Master for the 20th Masonic District. In 1972 he was appointed to the office of Senior Grand Deacon, and Grand Marshal in 1973 and Grand Orator in 1974. He was elected Senior Grand Warden in 1976 and Deputy Grand Master in 1977. In 1978 he was elected and installed as Grand Master of Masons in Ohio.
Surviving are his children: Vicky (David) Netherland, of Huron Ohio, Sherry Gerber, of Wooster, Rita (Tom) King, of Wooster and Daniel F. (Lisa) Iceman II, of Louisville KY. 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. 2 brothers: Les (Pat) Iceman of Berlin, Ohio and Mac (Rita) Iceman of Massillon.
He was also preceded in death by a son Rodger Iceman in 1945, a daughter Diane Beck in 2005, a granddaughter April Gerber, 2 great-granddaughters; Rachelle Ennis and Sydney Beck, and 2 brothers; Gerald and Robert Iceman.
