WOOSTER Marie L. Leedy, 85, died peacefully at Wooster Community Hospital April 21, 2012 with her family at her side from complications of pneumonia and her 22 year battle with Non-Hodgkin s Lymphoma.
She was born September 14, 1926 in Orrville to Glenwood and Ethel (Ferguson) Olsen and graduated from Orrville High School in 1944. She married Alonzo C. Smith of Wooster in 1946 and had two sons Edward Nix Smith and Brooks Jay Smith. After Alonzo s passing she married the late Dan L. Cook of Wooster in 1959 and had a daughter Veronica Lynn Cook Semer. In 1983 she married the late Judge James K. Leedy of Wooster.
She loved music, sang in church choirs and was a soloist during her younger years and modeled for Beulah Bechtel s Dress Shop in Wooster. She held several sales positions through the years including insurance, real estate and estate planning. She was a support to many that were diagnosed with cancer and an inspiration of spirit in her long battle.
She was a member of the Wooster Emblem Club and enjoyed her Domino, Shanghai, Rummikub and card games with friends. She enjoyed golf and was a founding member of the Wooster Women s Golf Association at Hillcrest Golf Course. She always had a smile and positive words and never lost her sense of humor.
She is survived by her daughter, Veronica Lynn (Stephen G.) Semer of Wooster, son Brooks J. (Patricia) Smith of Massillon, a brother Richard E. Olsen of Dalton; grandchildren Ryan A. Smith of Los Angeles, Calif. and Sarah B. Moohlman of Greenville, NC, step-grandchild Rachel Stahl of Baltic, CT and three step-great-grandchildren of Baltic, CT. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her son, Edward N. Smith of Wooster, a sister Irene S. Deetz of Wooster, a brother George A. Olsen of Wooster and parents Glen and Ethel Olsen of Wooster.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of God, 1953 Akron Road, Wooster with the Rev. Arnie Kaufman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. An Emblem Club Memorial Service will be held.
