APPLE CREEK – John William Bill ORR, 82, of Apple Creek, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 in Wooster Community Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1929 in East Union Township, Wayne Co., the son of Ross J. and Ethel M. Hofacre Orr. He married Mary Lou Stine on April 27, 1952. She survives.
After graduation in 1948 from Apple Creek High School he worked for Doty Motor Sales and then worked for Lowe & Young. In 1950 he went into the service for the U.S. Army and served in the 7th Infantry, Division 707 Ordinance Maintenance Co. He spent a large portion of that time in Korea. Upon his return, he returned to work for Lowe & Young. In 1963 he opened Bill’s Sales and Service and 1974 went to Sterling Farm Equipment as parts manager and then worked at Quality Farm and Fleet and retired from Retzlers Hardware.
He was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Apple Creek and active in Boy Scouting for over 30 years serving as treasurer and merit badge counselor for troop 69 in Apple Creek. He has three sons and a grandson who are Eagle Scouts and two grandsons working for their Eagle Scout Rank.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary Lou, are his children Dale Lynn (Celia) Orr of Apple Creek, Dixie Lee (Richard) Horn of Wooster, Donald Leroy (Becky) Orr, Debra Lynette (Dean) Wolboldt and Daryl Orr all of Holmesville; grandchildren, Christopher, Cory, Kyle, Tyler and Seth Orr, Jeff (Amanda) and Jason (Chasity) Thiel and Eloy and Daniel Wolboldt; step-grandchildren, Carrie Merckle and Tim (Judann) Horn; great-grandchildren Mackenna and Samantha Thiel and step-great-grandchildren Courtney, Allison and Logan Horn and Owen and Kole Gish and a brother Harlan Orr or Apple Creek. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Delno, Clayton and Alonzo and a sister Norma Jean Knoble.
Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the Memorial Service on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Pastor Candy Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Apple Creek Cemetery.
