WOOSTER – Olga Evelyn Crawford, 104, of Wooster, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 6. Olga was born on August 8, 1907, in Benton, Ohio, to Rollin Theadore and Bernice Rebecca Menuez. She is survived by her son, Ted (Sue) Crawford; five grandchildren: Amy (Bob) Breneman, Andy (Diane) Crawford, Brad (Cheri) Crawford, Mike (Lisa)Crawford, and Robbin (Wayne) Peeples; eighteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Suzanne Crawford, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hayes
Crawford, and a son, Robin (Joe) Crawford.
Olga graduated from Holmesville High School in 1926, where she was captain of a championship girls basketball team, then attended business college in Canton, Ohio. She was an avid sports fan all her life and a faithful follower of the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Cavs, often listening to the Indians on the west coast until the wee hours of the morning.
Volunteering was an important part of Olga’s life. She was one of the original Pink Ladies at Wooster Community Hospital, worked in the children’s ward at Apple Creek Development Center and coordinated the food canteen for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.
Olga had a remarkable zest for living. She enjoyed the game of bridge until shortly before her death and leaves many good friends to carry on for her at the Wooster Community Center. In her younger days she loved to dance, played the steel guitar with her husband, sang in the Zion Lutheran Church choir, bowled, played golf and traveled to many parts of the world. She enjoyed a hot air balloon ride on her 94th birthday and rode on the back of her grandson’s Harley-Davidson at 103.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on May 20th at 2:30 P.M. Family members will greet friends after the service.
