WOOSTER – Elsie Mae RAWSON, 82, of Wooster, passed peacefully surrounded by her family Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Wayne County Care Center after a 14 month battle of pancreatic cancer. She was born November 22, 1929 in Palestine, WV, the daughter of Henry and Agnes Keater Courtney. She married William McKinley Rawson on December 28, 1950. He survives. She was a generous person, good listener, good neighbor, also known as grandma to the neighborhood kids, and shared everything she had with others. She was the best wife, mother and grandmother anyone could ever ask for. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was very active in her children’s lives, including school PTA, room-mother, and any other activity they were involved in. Occasionally, she had been a room-mother to classes that her children weren’t in. Most of all, she will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who deeply loved and cared for her family. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, William; daughter, Brenda and RodneyYoung, son Dennis Rawson and daughter, Angie and Timothy Payne; grandchildren, Latashia, Tyler and Abigail Payne and William Rawson all of Wooster; a sister Lilly Enoch of Elizabeth, West Virginia and a brother Kenneth Courtney of Palestine West Virginia and a special cousin Deena Butcher of Wooster. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Frank and Elmer Courtney, a sister, June Wigal and an infant sister Mary Courtney. Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012. Burial will follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff of the Wayne County Care Center and Hospice for the amazing care they took of our Mom/Grandma.
