WOOSTER – Ruth Evelyn WHITMAN, 95, of Wooster, passed away Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Wayne Co. Care Center. She was born January 10, 1917 in West Lebanon, the daughter of George and Hazel Berger Cramer. She married Gene Whitman on June 30, 1943. He died March 29, 2008. She had been a school teacher in Medina and Wayne County Schools for 30-1/2 years. Ruth graduated from the College of Wooster in 1938 with a bachelor of arts degree. When she came to Wooster, she did additional course work at Ashland College in elementary education. She retired from Apple Creek School where she taught third grade for 16 years. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and the Lydia Martha Circle. She also was a volunteer at People to People Ministries, a member of the Wayne Co. Retired Teachers Association, a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Wayne Co. Historical Society and the Stark Co. Wilderness Center. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara (Burton) Mullins of Apple Creek, sons, Richard (Valerie) Whitman of New Lebanon and Ronald (Sally) Whitman of Wooster; daughter-in-law Cathy Whitman of Wooster and brother-in-law W. C. Geiss of Homerville; grandchildren Cody (Maggie) Whitman of California, Kyle Whitman of Columbus, Matthew Whitman of Columbus, Kayla Whitman of Dayton, Mariah and Madison Whitman of Wooster, Mike (Lori) Mullins of Fredericksburg and Michele (Ben) Berry of West Salem.; great-grandchildren Tyler, Austin, Nicholas Berry, and Alexis, Brenna, Olivia, Madelyn Mullins. brother John Cramer of West Lebanon and a sister Miriam Brown of North Canton and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death her parents and a son John C. Whitman. Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home on Thursday evening, August 30, 2012 from 6-8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the Trinity United Church of Christ, 150 E. North St., Wooster on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kevan Franklin officiating.. Interment will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.
