Lewis R. Hoffer 81, of Wooster passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012 in his home after a period of declining health.   A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday October 26, 2012 at West Hill Baptist Church 2241 Mechanicsburg Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691 with Pastor Dan Wingate officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church and also following the service.   Lewis was born on December 9, 1930 to Ralph and Mildred Moore Hoffer. He lived his entire life on the family farm on Fredericksburg Rd. He was a retired Farmer and Truck Driver. Lewis worked many years for Walter Jones Construction and retired from Yellow Freight in 1996. He also drove school bus for South East Local Schools for a few years. Lewis was a member of West Hill Baptist Church where he was an usher for many years. He often passed out red licorice sticks to the children at the church which made him known as the candy man. He also served as a long time member of the Fredericksburg Fire Department. Lewis enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and reading westerns. He enjoyed spending time with his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren ™s sporting events when he was able. Lewis is survived by his wife: Phyllis Swisher Hoffer whom he married on September 22, 1957. 2 daughters: Lisa (Tom) Orr of Apple Creek and Amy (Ty) Harris of Wooster. A son: Chris (Angie) Hoffer of Wooster. 9 grandchildren: Whitney, Kyle and Chase Hooley; Cooper and Connor Orr; Shelby and Riley Harris; and Kennedy and Cole Hoffer. His parents, a sister; Marjorie (John) Cramer and twin grandsons; Caleb and Marshall Harris preceded him in death.
