WOOSTER – Hal Franks, 76, of Wooster passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Akron City Hospital. He was born February 26, 1936 in Wooster, the son of Delroy and Luella Bierly Franks. He married Peggy Merriman on March 29, 1958. She survives. He was a realtor and broker owning Hal Franks Realty since 1970. Hal was a member of the Elks, past president of the Wayne Co. Real Estate Board and served on the Board for 4 years. He had received the outstanding and dedicated service award from the Chamber of Commerce from 1965-1968. He had been a member of the Wayne Elementary PTA, member of the Wooster High School Booster Club, Wooster Band Parents, sponsored Holmes Co. Special Olympics, was on the Board of Junior Achievement, very active in Coats for People through People to People Ministries and active in Relay for Life. He loved waterskiing, snow mobiling, racing boats and watching Cleveland sports teams. He was an avid NASCAR Fan. Hal had served his country with the US Army. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Scott (Mary) Franks of Wooster and grandchildren Courtney Olevnik of Erie, Pennsylvania and Carley Franks of Wooster. Hal was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Betsy Franks Champlin in 2012. Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 6-8:00 p.m. with an Elks service at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity United Church of Christ, 150 E. North St., Wooster with the Rev. Kevan Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.
