WOOSTER “ Marilyn œPeggy  Kiel died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Smithville-Western Care Center Sunday evening January 13. Peggy was born January 2, 1925 to Wayne and Ruth Strouse. She was raised in Wooster and attended Beall Avenue School and graduated from Wooster High School in 1943 where she excelled in Speech and Debate. Peggy worked at a factory ( œRosie the Riveter ) part time while attending oollege as her future husband, Albert Kiel, served his country overseas during WWII. Peggy graduated from the College of Wooster in 1947 and married her high school sweetheart, Albert, the same year. She was an excellent teacher and very supportive of her students who would often thank her and show their appreciation for her positive impact on their lives and careers. She retired from the Wooster City Schools after teaching fifth grade for over 20 years at Pittsburg Avenue School (Lincoln Way Elementary) and as a reading instructor at Parkview, Layton and St. Mary ™s elementary schools. Peggy enjoyed taking walks, reading, spending time with friends and family. She and her family also enjoyed traveling and camping. The family has many fond memories of their travels to Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Redwoods, and Mesa Verda National Parks. Peggy was a life-long member of Central Christian Church and was actively involved as a deaconess for over 60 years until her recent decline in health. Her faith in the Lord was reflected in the life she lived and why all who knew her were touched in a positive way. Surviving are a brother; Don (Irene) Strouse, her children; John (Denise) Kiel, Pam (Chuck) Hess, Andy (Debbie) Kiel; grandchildren: Allie Sherwood, Mallory (Chris) Thompson and Alex and Mark Kiel. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Robert Strouse and a son Mark Jeffrey Kiel. Friends will be received at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Wednesday, January 16 from 5-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Central Christian Church, 407 N. Market St., Wooster with the Rev. Kevin Phipps officiating. Peggy will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was truly one of a kind “ a bright light to all who knew her.
