WOOSTER – Eliza Jane LEVELS, 91, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Wooster Community Hospital. She was born July 14, 1921 in Boykin, SC, the daughter of Abraham and Sallie Lee Patterson Gilyard. She had worked as a maid at the former Ohio Hotel for 15 years, had been the assistant baker at the former Moore’s Bakery for 20 years and retired from the Wooster Brush Co. after 14 years of employment. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, a Deaconess, member of the senior choir, served on the usher board, was a member of the Missionary Society and was a member of the Women of the World Prayer Service of Shreve. She was the Wooster Senior Citizen of the year in 1995, volunteered at Lincoln Way School for many years, member of the Afro-American Club and the Strivers Club. Eliza was a frequent visitor to all the county nursing homes visiting patients. Surviving are a daughter, Sally Gilyard Earley of Wooster; grandchildren, Paulette Perkins, James Lindsay Florence, Gayle Florence and Korey Florence; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lydia (Rev. Rufus) Gilyard Thompson and Nora Gilyard Jones both of Wooster. Eliza was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Needam Levels in 1983 and brothers Abraham, David, Isaac, Landers, Willie and Mack Gilyard. Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the 12:00 Noon service at the Second Baptist Church, 245 S. Grant St., Wooster on Saturday, March 9, 2013 with the Rev. Rickey Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery. McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
