WOOSTER – Robert Maurer Mohr, 89, of Wooster, died Thursday March 21, 2013 at West View Healthy Living with complications from pneumonia.   Robert was born December 13, 1923, to Preston John and Dorothy Maurer Mohr, in Franklin Township, Wayne County. He graduated from Wooster High School in 1941 where he was active in FFA. He married B. Jean Amos on May 1, 1949. She survives. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp spending 34 days in the battle for Iwo Jima with the 5th Marine Division. He was transferred to the 1st Marine Division, one of the first divisions to occupy the main island of Japan after the surrender, signaling an end to WW II. One of his duties during the occupation was to meet with Japanese farmers educating them about new farming techniques. Robert spent many years as a dairy farmer with his father and brother in Wooster Township. He also served as a milk testing technician for Wayne County Dairy Service. Later he worked for the Ohio DOT District III in the construction division as a project supervisor. Robert and his wife operated a gift shop south of Orrville for several years after retirement. He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wooster, Ohio, and was a lifelong Indians and Browns fan. Robert was preceded in death by a son, Richard Gary Mohr, his mother and father, his brother Weldon Mohr, and step-mother, Pearl Hodge Mohr. Robert is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law- Cynthia and Robert McCauley; son and daughter-in-law – Michael and Laura Young Mohr; grandson, Ben McCauley and granddaughters, Mikaela and Cassandra Mohr, as well as a niece, nephew and several cousins. Friends may call Saturday, March 30, from 11-12, at McIntire, Bradham and Sleek Funeral Home in Wooster. Pastor Eric Fairhurst will conduct a service at the funeral home at 12 noon, to be followed by military rites at Wooster Cemetery.
