WOOSTER – Dwight C BURKEY, 92, of Smithville, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Smithville Western Care Center.
He was born March 29, 1921 in Wayne Co., the son of Chester and Fern Lehr Burkey.
He had been a farmer for 40 years and retired from the Timken Co. in 1983. Dwight was a member of the Wayne Presbyterian Church, the Smithville Historical Society, the Smithville Lions Club, a 4-H advisor and a rural youth member.
Surviving are his children; Nancy (Richard) Troxel of Cincinnati, Larry (Jeanetta) Burkey of Apple Creek, Ronald (Rhonda) Burkey of Wooster and Dolores (Mike) Hardman of Smithville; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister, Margaret Ann Hubacher, and brothers Daniel Burkey and James Burkey all of Smithville.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice and Smithville Western Care Center for their care of Dwight.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruth E Wagner Burkey in 2001 and his first wife, Opal Hall Burkey in 1946.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 6-8:00 p.m and 1 hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.
