WOOSTER – Howard R HUNT, Sr. 86, of Wooster, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at West View Healthy Living.
He was born June 18, 1927 in Akron, the son of John S. and Lillian Vaunn Knight Hunt. He married Harriett Patchkowski on July 15, 1948. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2004.
He retired from the US Marines in 1966 after enlisting in May of 1945 at the age of 17. After retirement he was employed by the O.A.R.D.C as a store keeper. Howard was a member of the First Christian Church in Vista, California.
He was a member of American Legion Post 68 of Wooster, the Marine Corp. Assoc., retired employees of The Ohio State University (OARDC), a volunteer boy scout leader and little league coach. He had donated over 116 pints of blood to the American Red Cross. Howard was an expert marksman who loved sailing, enjoyed archery, canoeing, hiking and camping but mostly, he loved being at home with family and friends. He dedicated his life to God, his country, his family and the US Marine Corps.
Surviving are son’s, Howard R. (Sandy) Hunt Jr. of Powhatan, VA, and Todd (Aimee) Hunt of Elizabeth, CO, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his siblings, John F Hunt of Jeromesville, Irene Hunt Anderson of Wooster, Paul Robert Hunt of Canton and Mary L. Harter of Apple Creek and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Howard was preceded by his parents and a daughter, Brenda Grande on June 4, 2010.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Wednesday evening, December 11, 2013 from 6-8:00 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Arnie Kaufman officiating. Interment will follow in the Wooster Cemetery, Wooster, OH.
