APPLE CREEK – Esther M MARTHEY, 92, of Wooster and formerly of Apple Creek passed away Friday January 10, 2014 at Wooster Community Hospital.
She was born January 28, 1921 in Apple Creek, the daughter of Clyde O and Emma Zuercher Saurer. She married Linus L. Zip Marthey on April 21, 1945. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1988.
Esther had worked at the Buehler’s Grocery Store on E. Liberty St. and the Southeast Local Schools in the Cafeteria. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a life member for 69 years of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 147, a life member of the Apple Creek Historical Society, a former member of Fountain Valley Homemakers Club and a Charter member of Merry-Mac.
Esther loved to mow the lawn with her riding lawn mower, work in the garden, attend yard sales and entertain her grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Elliott) Liggett of Wooster and a son, Paul (Cathie) Marthey of Apple Creek; grandchildren, Arianna Liggett, Alexis Fedak, Alicia Lenhart and Ben Marthey; great-grandchildren, Owen, Isaac, Eli and Amelia Fedak and Estella Marthey.
In addition to her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Helen June Boldman and a brother, Richard Benjamin Saurer.
There will be no calling hours.
A Service of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 13, 2013 at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m.. Burial will follow the Mass in St. Mary Cemetery.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
