WOOSTER – Audrey M. JEWELL, 98, of Wooster, passed away Saturday March 8, 2014 at West View Healthy Living.
She was born January 3, 1916 in Bellaire, the daughter of William Lewis and Sara Elda Shipman Michel.   She married Merwin Rags Jewell on September 6, 1941.   He preceded her in death on March 1, 1998.
Audrey was a graduate of the University of Akron in 1939 with a B.S. in Education.   She taught 2 years in the Norton School District and taught for 24 years at Wooster Township and Triway Junior High School.   While at Triway she was in charge of the Triway district spelling bee for many years and had two spellers go to the national spelling bee in Washington DC.  She was a member of the Central Christian Church where she had served as a Deaconess and a member of the C.W.F.     Audrey was a life member of the O.E.A. and was a member of the White Shrine.
After her retirement from teaching, she continued making quilts and had a ripping good time preparing rags for rugs.   She was an avid gardener and cared for her lawn until she moved to West View.   Audrey enjoyed completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.   She was perpetually pleasant and loved to sing songs even on her final afternoon.
Surviving are her children, David (Barbara) Jewell of Pickerington, Lynne (Mark) Chaddon of Bloomington, IL, Keith (Janice) Jewell of Upperco, MD and Kevin (Karla) Jewell of Wooster; grandchildren, Michele Evans, Michael (Odette) Evans, Todd (Christi) Jewell, Tim Jewell, Brian (Cheri) Jewell, Jeffrey (Jessica) Jewell, Kathryn Jewell and Jeremy (Ashley) Jewell; great-grandchildren, Miranda Henson, Sabrina and Steffan Hull, Shelby Jewell and Cody Wright.
In addition to her husband, Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Edna Sparren, June Clarke, Geraldine Brooks and an infant sister, brothers William J., Donald R. and Rev. George Michel.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 5-8:00 p.m.
Services will be held at the Central Christian Church, 407 N. Market St., Wooster on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev’s Kevin Phipps and Kirk Fairhurst officiating.  
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the staff at West View Healthy Living for all their care of Audrey over the last nine years.
