WOOSTER – Florence Jackman Shafer (86) went home to be with The Lord on Sunday, June 1, 2014 after a protracted battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Ken, and is survived by her son Kenneth E. Shafer of Wooster, OH, daughter Linda (and Randy) Shadoe of San Jose, CA, son Jeffrey D. (and Laura) Shafer of Vestal, NY, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Flo graduated from the College of Wooster in 1950 and received  a master’s degree in organ performance from Wayne State University.   In addition to her role as the wife of a Presbyterian minister and homemaker  for their active family, she was also an accomplished church musician, playing the organ and directing both vocal and bell choirs and  serving churches in West Carrollton, Danville, IL, Royal Oak, MI, Rocky River, Columbus, and Cincinnati.  She also taught piano and organ in her home studio and was a certified Kindermusic instructor.
She loved the Girl Scouts and was not only an active adult leader, but rose in the ranks at the council office where she was a trainer of trainers.  She held leadership roles in the Clintonville Women’s Club and the  Midwest Chapter of the American  Guild of English Handbell Ringers, as well as volunteering her time in many community organizations.   Besides her interest in classical music, she was an avid reader and loved needlecraft projects.
Internment was on June 3rd in Wooster Cemetery following a graveside service.
Arrangements are being handled by McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to People to People Ministries, 454  E. Bowman St, Wooster, OH, 44691.  A memorial organ recital is being planned for later this year.
