Jean R. Karshner, 89, of Wooster and formerly of Wadsworth died Friday June 20, 2014 at Wooster Community Hospital.
She was born February 20, 1925 in Laurelville, Ohio to Denver and Ruby Notestone Drum, Sr.   On January 29, 1942 she married Lloyd œJack  Karshner.   He preceded her in death in 1985.
Jean was a homemaker and was a certified welder during World War II and she worked in a bomb plant.   She was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Wadsworth where she was very active with Sunday School and other activities within the church.   Family was very important to her, she loved cooking and baking for others and was an avid reader.   Jean and her husband loved to travel the country in their motorhome.   After his death she had a number of good church friends that did a lot together, including playing cards and traveling.   She was a prolific needle worker including needlepoint, crewel and cross stitch.   She had been a Red Cross Volunteer in Wadsworth.  
Since moving to Brookdale Senior Living 3 years ago she was very happy and content, enjoying her new friends and many activities that she did while there.
Jean is survived by her daughter Saundra (Dennis) Higgins of Wooster, nieces Marilyn Gatwood, Susan Piercy and Dr. Mary Hooks-Hines and nephews Joe and John Hooks.
Along with her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Denver Drum, Jr. and a sister Mabel Hooks.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the 11:00 AM service on Thursday June 26, 2014 at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 116 E. Boyer St., Wadsworth, OH 44281.   Rev. James L. Singleton will officiate.

The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Brookdale Senior Living for their compassionate and excellent care and to the LifeCare Hospice for all they have done in the last 3 months.
