God called Deacon Bernard E. Hosfeld home on July 23, 2015 at the age of 84.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Lottie Hosfeld of Fredericksburg, brother Joseph (Nancy) Hosfeld of Holmesville, Sister Gratia Hosfeld of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, son Timothy Hosfeld, daughter Cynthia Arnette, and her special friend, Dave Steele, all of Fredericksburg. Grandchildren Bradly (Erica) Arnette of Wooster and Brett (Becky) Arnette of West Salem, Great-grandchildren Cohen, Alexis, Brantley and Brenton.
He is preceded in death by his parents Cletus and Dora Hosfeld and sister ™s Theresa (Ron) McCarthy and Donna Casper.
Bernie was born on Easter Sunday April 5, 1931 at home in Calmoutier, Ohio to Cletus and Dora Hosfeld. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School and then joined the U.S. Navy in 1951. He was stationed on the USS AJAX and served during the Korean War. He married Lottie Jeanette Bissett on June 16, 1956 at St. Genevieve Catholic Church. He worked for Dale James Ford and Jones Building Center for many years.
He enrolled at St Mary ™s Seminary in 1987, in the Permanent Diaconate program. Bernie was ordained as the Reverend Mr. Bernard Hosfeld in 1990 at St. John ™s Cathedral and was then assigned to St. Mary ™s Catholic Church in Wooster. He recently celebrated his 25th jubilee serving the Catholic Church. He was a member of the Fredericksburg American Legion and Knights of Columbus of Wooster.
Bernie was a self-taught man of many skills. He started off learning from working on the farm and living on the navy ship. He loved to take his family to Canada vacationing and fishing. Bernie was a strong family man who kept everyone together and touched the lives of many people. His family will remember him by his wisdom, patience, and caring ways. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A Vespers service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, July 30, 2015 and calling hours will follow from 4:00-7:00 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church 527 Beall Ave. Wooster, Ohio 44691. A Mass of Christian burial will follow the next day, Friday, July 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bernie ™s life.
