Hilary J. (Joe) Marthey, 89, of Orrville died Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at LifeCare Hospice.
He was born February 21, 1926 in Maysville the son of Clayton and Lucy Pailliotet Marthey.   On May 12, 1947 he married the love of his life, Geraldine Moomaw, who survives him.
Hilary was a Certified Master Mechanic at the Chevrolet and Buick dealerships in Orrville until he retired in 1989.   He was a lifelong passionate farmer for over 60 years.   He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.   He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, and communing with nature.
Along with his wife, Hilary is survived by his children Randall (Claudia) Marthey of Wooster, Diane (Jack) Fries of Montrose, Michigan and Debra Marthey of Orrville; grandchildren Chad and Ryan Marthey, Kristina Smits, Jack and Eric Fries, Drew, Lindsey and Kevin Beichler; great grandchildren Claire and Lyla Marthey, Nolan, Carson and Porter Smits, Annabelle and Eleanor Fries, and Briggs Beichler;   sisters Mary Kinney of Columbus, Geneva Cairnie and Dolores Marthey both of Orrville and Margaret Eby of Independence.
Hilary was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Michael Dean Marthey and siblings Agnes Seib, Constance Shultzman, Jeanette Meier, Donald, Richard and Thomas Marthey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Rev. Stephen Moran as celebrant.   Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2:00-5:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St. Wooster, with a rosary service starting at 1:00 PM
