Sue H. Yamazaki, 97, of Wooster died Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at West View Healthy Living.
She was born April 9, 1918 in Berkeley, CA to Sataro and Toku Koga Harano.   On February 22, 1942, she married William œBill  Yamazaki.   He preceded her in death in 2010.
Sue had just graduated from the University of California Berkeley in 1942 when the United States entered into World War II.   She and her new husband as well as 120,000 other Japanese-Americans from the west coast were sent to internment camps during the war.  In 1944 the couple, with their newborn son, moved to Wooster where Bill was employed by the US Department of Agriculture.
Sue had been a Wooster Hospital Volunteer, a 4-H instructor, a YMCA and Westminster Presbyterian Church board member, a precinct election judge, a bridge player and active in a gourmet dining club, O.A.R.D.C. wives ™ club, and church activities.   She enjoyed sewing and taking water color classes.   During their later years, Sue and Bill traveled in the U.S. and other countries.   They enjoyed their friends and family.
She is survived by her children Russell (Jane) Yamazaki of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, June (Delbert) Craner of Westfield Center and Nancy (Scott) Leavenworth of Superior, CO; granddaughter Holly Leavenworth of Superior, CO and a sister Tomika Sollen of Santa Barbara, CA.
Along with her husband, Sue was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Mackey Hall, 353 Pine St., Wooster, with Rev Andries Coetzee officiating.
