ON THE EVENING OF DECEMBER 19, 2015, DOROTHY PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT HER HOME IN WOOSTER FROM A PROTRACTED ILLNESS. DOROTHY WAS 80 YEARS OLD.
DOROTHY SCHIVLEY WAS BORN IN BETHLEHEM, PA ON AUGUST 2, 1935. SHE WAS THE YOUNGEST OF EIGHT SIBLINGS (ANNE, MARY, HELEN, JOSEPH, CHARLIE, FRANKIE, WILLIAM) BORN TO ANNA AND CHARLES DONCSECZ. DOROTHY WAS THE LAST SURVIVING MEMBER OF HER IMMEDIATE FAMILY.
AFTER GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN BETHLEHEM, PA, DOROTHY WAS MARRIED TO THE GREATEST MAN SHE EVER KNEW, HER HUSBAND, GEORGE. THEY REMAINED IN THE BETHLEHEM, PA AREA FOR A PERIOD WHILE GEORGE FINISHED HIS MASTERS DEGREE WORK AT HIS BELOVED LEHIGH UNIVERSITY. THEY THEN MOVED TO ROME, NY AS GEORGE WAS AN OFFICER IN THE AIR FORCE. DOROTHY COUNTED HER TIME WITH GEORGE WHILE HE WAS IN THE SERVICE AS SOME OF THE BEST THAT SHE HAD.
AFTER RECEIVING AN HONORABLE DISCHARGE FROM THE AIR FORCE, GEORGE AND DOROTHY MOVED BACK TO THE BETHLEHEM AREA WHERE GEORGE STARTED WORK AS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER FOR INGERSOL RAND.   WHILE LIVING IN THE BETHLEHEM AREA, DOROTHY GAVE BIRTH TO PAMELA JOY ON APRIL 3, 1958. AFTER SEVERAL YEARS DOROTHY AND FAMILY MOVED TO BOUND BROOK, NJ WHERE SHE WELCOMED A SON TO THE FAMILY, GEORGE P SCHIVLEY III, BORN MAY 17, 1964.
IN THE MID SEVENTIES, DOROTHY AND FAMILY MOVED FROM NEW JERSEY TO BRIDGPORT, WV AS A RESULT OF A PROMOTION FOR HER HUSBAND GEORGE. DOROTHY AND FAMILY STAYED TWO SHORT YEARS IN WV BEFORE MOVING TO WOOSTER, OHIO, ORIGINALLY TO TAYLOR ROAD AND THEN TO AVALON DRIVE WHERE THE FAMILY SETTLED UNTIL GEORGE III GRADUATED FROM WOOSTER HIGH SCHOOL/WAYNE COUNTY CARREER CENTER IN 1982.
DOROTHY AND GEORGE WERE ONCE AGAIN ON THE MOVE. AGAIN, DUE TO GEORGE’S WORK, THEY RE-LOCATED TO RICHARDSON, TX WHERE THEY REMAINED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS UNTIL DOROTHY’S HUSBAND GEORGE RETIRED FROM INGERSOLL RAND IN 1999. UPON GEORGE’S RETIREMENT THEY RETURNED TO WOOSTER. BOTH DOROTHY AND GEORGE HAD DEVELOPED A NUMBER OF CLOSE FRIENDS DURING THEIR FIRST MOVE TO WOOSTER AND FOUND THE TOWN WARM AND WELCOMING. IT WAS A NATURAL PLACE TO COME HOME TO ONCE DOROTHY’S HUSBAND GEORGE RETIRED.
THEY HAD A HOME BUILT FOR THEM THAT WAS DESIGNED BY DOROTHY’S HUSBAND GEORGE. THEY MOVED BACK IN THE LATE 90’S AND BOTH OF THEM LIVED OUT THEIR DAYS ENJOYING ALL THE FRIENDSHIPS AND WONDERFUL THINGS THAT THE WOOSTER COMMUNITY HAD TO OFFER.
DOROTHY WORKED FOR THE PINE TREE BARN IN SHREVE, OHIO WHICH SHE SO DEARLY ENJOYED. NOT ONLY DID SHE ENJOY THE WORK, SHE LOVED HER CO-WORKERS. WORKING AT ‘THE PINE TREE’ AS DOROTHY CALLED IT SEEMED TO JUST MAKE HER DAY MANY TIMES. SHE JUST ENJOYED THE INTERACTION WITH CUSTOMERS AND CO WORKERS. HER POSITION AT THE PINE TREEN GAVE HER SO MUCH IN THE WAY OF SELF WORTH AND GOOD FEELINGS.
IN ADDITION TO HER JOB AT THE PINE TREE BARN, DOROTHY WAS ACTIVE IN THE WOOSTER WOMENS CIVIC CLUB.   THE COLONY CLUB OF WOOSTER AND THE FLORA LYNN GARDEN CLUB. HER INTERACTIONS AND FRIENSHIPS IN THESE SOCIAL GROUPS BROUGHT DOROTHY MUCH HAPPINESS.
DOROTHY WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND GEORGE IN 2014 AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. AFTER DOROTHY LOST GEORGE, THE LIGHT SEEMED TO GO OUT FOR DOROTHY. GEORGE WAS HER ROCK AND HIS LOSS WAS MOST DIFFICULT FOR HER. IN ADDITION TO HER PASSING FROM MEDICAL ISSUES, I CANNOT HELP BUT THINK IT MAY ALSO HAVE BEEN FROM A BROKEN HEART. DOROTHY ALWAYS FELT AS SHE WAS THE ONE WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO PASS FIRST.
DOROTHY IS SURVIVED BY HER DAUGHTER PAMELA (TONY) JOY SPARZO-ELLIOTT AND GEORGE PORTER SCHIVLEY III AND HIS SIGNIFIGANT OTHER, LORENE CARTHEN. DOROTHY WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE A NUMBER OF WONDERFUL GRANDCHILDREN. HER DAUGHTER PAM’S CHILDREN, BILLY MILLIGAN OF CINCINNATI, TONY MILLIGAN AND PATRICK MILLIGAN OF NE OHIO. ALSO GABRIEL SPARZO AND CHRISTIAN SPARZO OF MCCORDSVILLE IN.
DOROTHY’S SON GEORGE’S CHILDREN INCLUDE ERIN MAE SCHIVLEY AND GEORGE PORTER SCHIVLEY IV WHO RESIDE WITH THEIR FATHER IN MENTOR, OHIO.
