RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – Helen E. McKee of Wooster died on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at The Oaks of Mayview Nursing Home in Raleigh, NC. She was 91 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert J. McKee.
Helen is survived by two daughters from a previous marriage, Melinda Cater, of Oxnard, California, and Susan Foster of Raleigh, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Lisa Gillespie of Palmdale California, Kate Foster of Redondo Beach, California and Christine Foster of Valencia, Spain; three great-grandchildren,  Brandon Gillespie, Mariah Moscrop and Jacob Foster, all residing in California; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Jo Moscrop.
Helen was born on April 4, 1924 in Wooster, Ohio, to parents Rezin R. Franks and Mary Ackerman Franks.   She had one brother, Rezin Franks Jr. who died in infancy, and three sisters, Dorothea (Floyd) Spigelmire, Mildred (Roy) Steiner, and Miriam (Tom) Johnson, all deceased.
Helen graduated from Wooster High School in 1942.  She worked locally as an agent in life and automobile insurance for most of her career.   Mrs. McKee was a lifelong resident of Wooster until failing health caused her move to Raleigh in 2002 to be close to her daughter, Susan.
Before his death, Mr. and Mrs. McKee loved to spend time in the summer with family and friends at their cottage on Odell ™s Lake in Big Prairie.   Helen ™s favorite pastime was playing games, especially cards, and she continued to play (and win!) until just a few weeks before her death.   She enjoyed live theater and big band music. Her family will always remember her quick wit and keen sense of humor.
Visiting hour is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St, Wooster.  The funeral service will follow immediately at 3:00 PM.  Pastor Rob McClaran will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Helen ™s life.
