Clyde A. Layfield, Jr., 80 of Wooster died Friday, January 19, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice.
He was born July 18, 1937 in Elizabeth, WV to Clyde A., Sr. and Ruth Watkins Layfield. Clyde was a graduate of Belleville High School and retired from Rex Roth.
Clyde proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a M.P. He was a past commander and lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 68.
He had a great love of country music and was a member of the Country and Western Music Association. Clyde enjoyed singing and playing guitar and performing at The Music Barn and attending shows at The Victoria Theatre in Wheeling, WV.
Clyde is survived by his children Melinda Dyer of Nevada, Greg Layfield of Mansfield, Bonnie Pickard of Shreve, Michelle (Eric) Bower of Wooster and Russell (Megan) Layfield of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister Maxine Thelma Sackman and a brother Edwin Keith Layfield both of Belleville; and a special friend Linda Hermann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sandra Kay Jones Layfield; sons Steven and Jeffrey and sisters Norma Layfield and Lois Cox.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 1:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St. Wooster with Pastor Gene Young officiating. Private family burial will be held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
