John Arnold Harmony, 82, of Wooster, dear husband, father and grandfather passed into the arms of the Lord in Heaven on Friday, February 9, 2018 after an extended illness at Glendora Care Center.
He was born January 20, 1936 to Jack and Gertrude Ling Harmony on the farm of his Uncle Charles and Aunt Lucille in Holmes County, Ohio.
After graduating from Millersburg High School, he joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Japan and then was honorably discharged.   Once back in the States, he started working for the United Telephone Company in Wooster, where he met the love of his life, Janola Diane Shoup, who was a telephone operator there.   He married Janola in 1960. They were married for 57 wonderful years.
He and Janola loved to ride his Harley Davidson and were members of a motorcycle club.   He loved to tell stories of white knuckle rides.
John was a volunteer fireman in Shreve for 19 ½ years.   He was self-taught; an intelligent man and read every National Geographic front to back.   Vacations with the family were always important as John worked very hard and long hours to support his family.
John was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.   He hunted with his buddies, but never killed an animal.   He will be known also for his tremendous sense of humor of which his co-workers, friends and family could attest.
He retired from the telephone company as a union steward after 40 years of service.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Brenda L. (Bryan) Alaura, Barbara J. (Timothy) Tickton Gill and Debra S. (Sam) Harmony; grandson Sean (Kristen) Chapman; granddaughters Kristy and Kerry Alaura and a sister-in-law Sandra Myers.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Daniel Harmony.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
John will be buried at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville at a later date.
The family would like to give their appreciation for the loving kind care of John at Glendora Care Center and a special thanks to LifeCare Hospice for their care and concern.
