WOOSTER – Janice J. Messner, age 68, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29th at the Smithville Western Care Center, after a long period of declining health.  
She was born April 23, 1951 to the late Forest C. and Esther M. (Puff) Messner and was a life long resident of Apple Creek and a Waynedale High School graduate.  
For many years, Janice enjoyed sitting on her front porch with her cat and chatting with friends and neighbors who would stop by to visit.   She had been an active member of the Apple Creek Wilbur Welty Post 147 Legion Auxiliary for several years and enjoyed helping with Veteran ™s Day dinners and parades.  
She is survived by her brother, Calvin Messner of Smithville Western Care Center, an aunt, Ethel Shankland of Wooster, and several cousins.     She was proceeded in death by her parents, grandparents Warren and Helen Messner of Apple Creek and Frederick and Emma Puff of Canton, a brother Dean Messner and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2nd in the Mausoleum at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kenn Curren officiating.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

The Family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring staff at Smithville Western Care Center and also to the LifeCare Hospice nurses who took such wonderful care of Janice the final weeks of her life.
