Norma G. Newman, 96, of Wooster died Saturday, June 29, 2019 at The Avenue of Wooster.  
She was born January 8, 1923 to Fred E. and Lulu Franks Graber in the Barnhart Rice House at the OARDC adjacent to the Rose Garden.   In 1946 she married George Newman.   He preceded her in death in 2003.
Norma attended elementary school in the one-room school which was located on the site of the current Wooster Twp. Elementary school.   The building was dismantled and moved to the Wayne County Historical Society on E. Bowman St.   She graduated from Wooster High School in 1940.
Her first employment was as a secretary to Guy Richard at the Wooster Board of Trade, then the East Ohio Gas Company until her marriage.   She and George resided in Cleveland for two years while George complete his studies at the Cleveland College of Mortuary Science.   Upon returning to Wooster, Norma was employed at the Nihlen Black Lincoln-Mercury dealership.   She retired when sons Jon and Jim joined the family.   She re-entered the work force in 1955 as the office manager for Neal F. Bowman & Son Real Estate and Insurance Agency and the Rufner-Campbell-Johnson Insurance Agency.   She then retired from the Wayne County Engineers Office.   Norma was also a partner with her husband in the Newman Monument business located at the corner of SR 585 and Portage Rd.
Norma was a lifetime member of Trinity United Church of Christ, a 50 plus year member of Eastern Star, a member of the Areme Club and a former member of Quota Club of Wooster.
She is survived by her sons Jon of Rockville, MD and Jim of Wooster; grandchildren Suzanne Newman, Jessica Hinderer, Samuel Newman, Matthew J. Newman and Samantha Newman; great grandchildren Liam and Grace Hinderer and Charlotte and Eleanor Newman; and her sister Vera Zuercher of Wooster.
Along with her husband, Norma was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Florence Bucher.
Private family services will be held.
