NAPLES, FL – E.A. (Mike) Smith passed in peace on Thursday July 25th at Arbor Trace in Naples, FL surrounded by his loving children.
He was born on April 6, 1930 in Wooster, the son of Roy and Anna (Tolbert) Smith. On June 12, 1949 he married his high school sweetheart Jacquelyn (Jackie) Zimmerman. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2014.
Mike was a 1948 graduate of Smithville High School, worked various jobs during and after high school and proudly served in the Army National Guard. In 1955 he started COFSCO, Inc. an oiland gas industrial supply company.
In his years following his retirement in the mid 1980s Mike and Jackie moved to Naples, FL and spent time traveling to many destinations around the world and in the United States. Mike enjoyed golf, gin rummy, and various new ventures. He never really stopped working; Mike was always involved and instrumental in helping others get started in their business ventures. He enjoyed being with his family and was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend to many people.
Mike belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Shrine, Royal Order of the Jesters, and the Elks. He was past president of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association and active in the Independent Petroleum Association of America.
Surviving are his children Jeff (Patrice) Smith and Jill (Charles Sonny) Carmichael; brother-in- law, David Zimmerman of Smithviile; grandchildren, Season (Brian) Cheeseman, Jordan Smith, Brian Dawe, Kevin Dawe, Rick (Christine) Carmichael and Renee (Gary) Gwinn.
In addition to his wife, Jackie, and parents, Mike was preceded in death by his siblings Keith Smith, Clair Smith, Louise Emerson Schrock and Carol (Peggy) Burns.
A private burial will take place at a later date and no calling hours per his request.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital, Avow Hospice in Naples, FL., or a charity of the donor’s choice.
