WOOSTER – Marilyn A. Meinke, 83, of Wooster, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Wooster.  
She was born June 19, 1936 to Howard B. and Elizabeth A. (Van Slyke) Thorpe in Ashtabula, Ohio. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where she met her husband Jack Meinke at Fenn College.   They were married June 8, 1957 at the Baptist Church of the Master in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, by pastors from both of their churches. They celebrated 62 years together with their family.
Marilyn was a registered nurse in Ohio for 36 years working primarily with the elderly, including years as head nurse at the Wade Park Manor retirement center. Marilyn earned her nursing degree in 1957 from the Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing and after graduation worked as a nurse at the first heart surgery at the Huron Road Hospital. Marilyn later graduated from Ursuline College with a bachelor’s degree in Health Services Management.
Marilyn was an ordained Deacon in the Presbyterian Church and a Stephen ™s Minister.   She was a member of the Wayne Presbyterian Church in Wooster where she led the church’s greeters program.
Marilyn was a quilter and over a 25 year period handmade 47 quilts that primarily went to her children and grandchildren. She also donated quilts to the Wayne Presbyterian Church and to the Huron Road Hospital Alumni Association as fund raisers.
Marilyn and her husband Jack enjoyed tracing their family histories. Marilyn is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was especially proud of the fact that all four of her families lines trace back to patriots during the Revolutionary War.
Surviving Marilyn are her husband Jack, four children David (Sherry) Meinke of Massillon, Ohio, Alan (Sherri) Meinke of Medina, Ohio, Jill (Albert) Rubinoski of Elyria, Ohio, Scott (Nena) Meinke of Lynchburg, Virginia and brother David Thorpe of Streetsboro, Ohio. She was always proud of the many accomplishments of her children, 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 4:00 PM at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 7152 Burbank Rd., Wooster with Rev. Bob Meyer officiating.   Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends will be received one hour prior the service at the church.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
Those wishing to share a memory can make a donation in her name to the Huron Road Hospital Nurses Alumni Association or to the Wayne Presbyterian Church’s Building Fund.

  2. To one of us you were “Mom” to the other you were thought of as “mom Meinke”. We love you and will miss you greatly. Your smiles and your wit and wisdom we will miss the most. No more back pain and no more confusion. We will see you again.
