ORRVILLE – David Miller Maiwurm of Orrville, age 82, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020. A celebration of life service will be scheduled as able.
David was born August 7, 1937 in Akron, Ohio, the eldest son of Robert C. Maiwurm and Muriel E. Miller. He graduated from Orrville High School in 1955. David worked various farm jobs through junior high and high school. As an adult, he was always in the clothing business. After high school he moved to Middletown, Ohio and worked as a clothier. After a few years, he moved back to Orrville and started working with his father and brother, Roger, at Maiwurm s Clothing where he worked until he took early retirement due to heart complications in 1985.
David was born with a rare defect called transposition of the great arteries. Transposition changes the way blood circulates through the body, leaving a shortage of oxygen in blood flowing from the heart to the rest of the body. Without an adequate supply of oxygen-rich blood, the body can’t function properly, and children face serious complications or death without treatment. This condition ended David s mother s life at the age of thirty-five. Fortunately, David lived in an era where the wonderful Cleveland Clinic was able to perform various surgeries to reverse this condition, install artificial valves and eventually a pacemaker, and give him 82 wonderful years of life with 61 years of marriage. He lived life knowing he was given the incredible gift of time.
On May 24, 1958 David married his childhood best friend and love of his life, Mary Lee Weltlich. They grew up three houses apart and spent their entire lives together. They resided in Orrville and grew their family with their two sons, Scott and Craig. Being a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend were David s favorite roles in life. He was also an avid hunter and field trialer of hunting dogs, as well as excellent trap shooter. David said goodbye to the love of his life on November 8, 2019 when Mary Lee passed away. The family takes comfort knowing they are now together again.
David loved following his grandsons and granddaughters sporting events and hearing about their adventures. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
David is survived by his two sons, Scott (Valerie) and Craig (Emily) and grandchildren, Travis, Jeremy, Trevor, Isabella, and Adaline along with brothers Roger (Elise) and Terry (Nancy) and sister Carol (John Brown) and their families.
