John Marlin Furno, Jr., 62, of Wooster went to be home with the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2020 at Smithville Western Care Center.
He was born June 20, 1957 in Sturgeon, PA to John Sr. and Florence Mikus Furno. On June 18, 1982, he married soul mate and love of his life, Susan Susie Cordell. She survives.
John was a pastor, most recently with Augsburg Lutheran Church in Orrville, and was also a licensed clinical councilor. He loved planes, eagles, music, especially 70s rock and classic jazz, was an avid reader and loved to learn and watching Sci-Fi, especially Star Trek and crime dramas on television. His family was very important to him as were the people he served as a pastor. He had been in Phi Theta Phi while in college.
Along with his wife, John is survived by his daughters Jennifer Furno of Columbus and Jessica Furno of Wooster; sister Karen Rolin of Oakdale, PA and his grand dog Roxie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece Kerri Rolin and his fur son Scruffy.

I am so sorry to learn of John’s passing. He was a much beloved classmate and fellow band member at South Fayette. We had a lot of fun with our bandmates hanging out in the band room at lunch time each day. John could play the saxophone like nobody’s business! He graced us with his talents in marching, jazz, and concert bands. My sincere condolences to the entire family. Rest in Peace my friend.
I am sorry to the family of John. I grew up down the street from John and we were good friends. We spent time fishing the small pay lakes ,listening to music,and playing basketball. John was the first one to get the album Jesus Christ Superstar and he was generous enough to lend it to me to listen.Also I remember how many laughs me and John had together.All things said he was a very good friend and man.
Christ has risen and we shall, too. This is our hope and prayer at the time of loss. John was a fellow Pastor and fellow Board Member for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Well done good and faithful servant. Sympathy to the family.
John was a very kind person. We grew up in the same small town and all knew each other well. He was good friends with my brothers. This is such a sad loss for all who knew him. Just want to pay my respects and offer my heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends, especially Karen, Clem and Faith, but to all of his family. I am sure John is now Home with the Lord he loved.
Pastor John was a dear friend of ours. We met him when he was Pastor of our church St. John Lutheran in McZena, Oh. My late brother Ted and I enjoyed the weekly lunch he and Sue hosted in the basement of the church. The round table chit chat was great.Always enjoyed his sermon’s Sunday mornings.,, Prayers for the family!
My sympathy to Jessica and the Furno family. I enjoyed his notes that he sent to me after your Edgewood Middle School Band Concerts. He was a most kind and gentle man with an ever present smile on his face. May he rest in God’s peace.

John was our pastor at St. John in Champion, OH. I enjoyed being on church counsel, when he was with us. Had never been on counsel before – he & the other parishioners made it really enjoyable. Had a fun time & especially remember when he helped bring the African Children’s Choir to our town. Enjoyed sharing books too. Our sympathy for your loss. Oh, enjoyed his sermons too.

I just learned at this late date of John’s passing, and am sorry to learn of it. He and I were fellow pastors in western Pennsylvania, and I knew him to be a kind and gentle soul. My condolences to Sue and his daughters. Rest eternal grant him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.
I am so sad to hear of his passing I knew him at college his laugh and smile were infectious. May GOD surround his family with peace
John and I were roommates on our college choir’s tour to Romania. His sense of fun and adventure were nearly endless, and I treasure the chances I got to share them. Reading some of the other remembrances, I see that he continued to share himself with others, and so, I have every confidence that he is at home with his Lord, and I pray for His peace and strength for John’s family.
