With the Grace of God Joseph L. Lackman passed away on May 12, 2020. Joseph was born in St. Thomas Mo. on July 6, 1936, the third child of twelve children of Stephen and Clara (Luebbering) Lackman. He attended St. Thomas Elementary School. He attended St. Peters High School as a freshman, He then graduated from Cardinal Glennon Preparatory School, and continued college at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, Mo.
He married Dorothy Brenneke on December, 26, 1965. He worked as a farm manager in Missouri before moving to Apple Creek in 1969 to be a full-time Artificial Inseminator for Northern Ohio Breeding Association. He retired after 33 years, having inseminated 8,500 first services. He was active in the Apple Creek community and was Membership Chairman of the Apple Creek Historical Society. Dorothy and Joe own and operate Lackman s Sewing Center, and Joe did service repair.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, and was a Lay Distributor of Holy Communion since 1967, visiting shut-ins in Apple Creek for Communion. He has been a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus since 1954 and a 4th Degree Member since 1964. He served a term as Grand Knight, then as Financial Secretary of St. Thomas, Missouri Council # 2149.
Joe’s interests included old time fiddle tunes, square dancing and genealogy. He, with some help from his German cousins traced the Lackmann Family back to 1596 when the first marriage was recorded at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Delbruck, Germany, Paderborn Diocese. Joe and Dorothy were able to visit this church on a trip to Germany in 2010.
Survivors include his lovely wife Dorothy; children Laryssa (Joshua) Hook of Ostrander, Luke (Sue) Lackman of Orrville, Stephanie (Raymond) Musselman of Pataskala, Kristina (David) Keister of Apple Creek, Theresa Lackman and Jennifer Lackman both of New York and Angela (Andrew) Cerniglia of Holmesville; grandchildren are William, Maximus and Elise Hook; Nathaniel Lackman; Madelaine (Cody), Margaret, and Matthew Musselman; David, Myranda, Sophia and Kailynn Keister; Jude, Noah, Grace, Isaac, and Micah Cerniglia; siblings Dr. Virginia (Len) Billian of Maryland, Dorothy (Charles) Hartung of High Ridge Mo., Sr. Cecilia Lackman SSM of St. Louis, Mo., Paul (Lillian) Lackman of St. Thomas, Mo., Bernard (Elaine) Lackman of Centertown Mo. and Juliet (Ralph) Rodeman of Columbia Mo.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, siblings – Rosemary Otto, Norine Lage, Frances Lackman, David Lackman, Harriet Lackman and a grandchild, Lisetta Marie Cerniglia

aunt dorothy and family I am Annie’s. how very sorry i am for your loss of uncle joe. i remember him as a gentle man of few words. i know he was in a lot of pain in his life and is in heaven now with my dad and his siblings and other aunts.
Aunt Dorothy and family, I’m sorry for your loss of Uncle Joe. I remember when he came calling on Aunt Dorothy at Grandpa and Grandma’s and how tall and soft spoken he was. I’m sure he’s enjoying meeting all his ancestors he researched now in heaven.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you and praying Uncle Joe is at peace and enjoying his reunion with Mom and the rest of his family who have passed.

My deepest condolences on the passing of Uncle Joe. I, too, remember him as quiet and a man of few words, all while the rest of Grandma and Grandpa Brenneke’s house was bursting in noise and activity at Christmas time! I am sure you will cherish all of those memories.
My deepest sympathy to Aunt Dorothy and all of their children. Keep all of those great memories alive in your hearts. I wish I could be there in person to share my condolences but given the current social distancing recommendations, that isn’t going to happen. Hugs to all of you.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire family. Just want to share a few memories. I started breeding cows in December of 1999 for NOBA/Genex Joe taught me his breeding route and how to come into the basement and check his answering machine for the call in service. Soon after he fell and broke his hip so I had to step up as an intern at 21 years old. I remember one time I kept playing the machine to figure out who this fellow was on the machine that needed a cow bred and just could not understand it. Joe was upstairs and not able to move around much from his broken hip and then he hollered down at me and said that’s David Gerber and I thought how in the world could you figure that out. I’m now 41 years old and still in the artificial breeding business but will always cherish those first memories with Joe that kick started my career and personal growth. Thanks Joe. R.I.P.

I had polio at age 4 and still not walking again when I started grade school, so my BIG BROTJER JOE, carried me to school on piggy-back throughout first grade, back home for lunch and back to school for the afternoon, then back home at the end of the school day. Dear Dorothy and all of your children, and my remaining brothers and sisters. Again, I just need to say how much you mean to me. Joe, I think I told you years ago that I think of you every day and how much you really mean to me.
I remember, even at the early age 0f four how you took care of me and treated me. You were always watching out for me.
I was the polio child and you made sure I was taken care of, even carrying me to first and second grade on piggy-back. Thank you BIG BROTHER, JOE, I miss you terribly and I know where you are so just “listen up” because I sure still need you.
You are now with the angels, mom and dad and the rest of our family who preceded you, and all your many friends. You are in a good place and I will see you again some day.
