WOOSTER – Calvin F. (Cal) Fravel (95) passed away July 8, 2020 at Danbury Senior Living, with family present. He was born in Maurertown, VA on January 20, 1925 to John William (Will) Fravel and Sallie E Gochenour. Cal graduated from Toms Brook High School in 1942 and joined the Navy, serving during WWII from 1943-45. As part of his Naval Aviator cadet training, he attended the College of Wooster and the University of Iowa. While in Wooster, he met the love of his life, Mary Parker at an USO event. They were married December 1, 1946 in Wooster where they began their life together. Following a number of years in the sheet metal and roofing business, Cal started and owned his business, Fravel Sheet Metal, for nearly 30 years. He then worked for Wayne County as a Building Inspector for 13 years, retiring in 1990.
Cal was a near lifelong member of Central Christian Church where he was recognized as a Life Deacon. Among community activities, he served as President of the Jaycees, Exalted Ruler of the Elks, a member of the Lions Club and Builders Exchange. Cal served 13 years at Meals Together and was a regular walker at the Gault. He enjoyed flying, fishing, dining out, and giving back as well as spending time together with his extended family that included Maxine’s children and their families.
Following the death of Mary, his wife of 52 years, Cal married the new love of his life, Maxine Walter on March 11, 2000. They were life partners and traveled extensively for much of their 20+ years together. They resided in their home in Bayberry Cove where Cal served the association as a trustee for 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine, son, John (Helen) Fravel, son, Robert (Brenda) Fravel both of Wooster; grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick) Binelli of Wilmington, MA, Bethann (Jason) Seibold of Minerva, OH, Shawn (Bailey) Fravel of Denver, CO, Brittney (Jamie) Horvath of Dublin, OH, , Brian Fravel (Wendy) of Cambridge, ON Canada, Ben (Brittany) Fravel of Lakewood, OH, and Tyler (Molly) Fravel of Westminster, CO, and 10 great-grandchildren of OH, MA, and CO. Also surviving are Cal’s step children Kathy and David Lenninger. Dan and Jody Walter, Julie and Jeff Gilson and each of their families. One sister in law, Bonnie Parker, survives in Wooster.
Along with his parents, Cal was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 1998 and 7 siblings and their spouses.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no calling hours.
A private family service will be held at Central Christian Church, 407 N. Market St., Wooster with the Rev. Glen Schory officiating. Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Facebook page on July 18, 2020 starting at 11:00 a.m.

Cal had been a loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather who gave his best-He WILL BE MISSED and was loved by all!!
