Susan R. Jones of Wooster passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Cleveland Clinic, Medina Hospital. She was 75 years old.
She was born in Washington D.C. on August 4, 1945, a daughter of Willis and Nina Ray Patterson. The family returned to Wooster where Sue graduated from Wooster High School in 1963. She attended Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.
Susan loved to travel, especially road trips to national parks. Known for always putting others first, her full-time job was raising and encouraging her three children. She also hosted numerous exchange students who became part of her extended family. She also cared for numerous animals, including her cats.
Susan loved cooking and baking and was appreciated for specialties like baked brisket and chocolate chip cookies. While mostly a homemaker, she worked at Walter Jones Construction when needed and supported various causes and organizations, including the Wooster Presbyterian Church, Garden Club, and the PTA when her children were younger.
Susan was preceded in death by her father Willis Patterson, her mother Nina Ray Patterson, and her brother Steve (Ethel) Patterson, also of Wooster.
She is survived by her three children, Jennifer Jones of Alexandria, Virginia, Stephen (Venus) Jones of Santa Clara, California, and John Jack Douglas Jones Jr. who lived with Susan of Wooster, Ohio. She is also survived by her siblings, Patricia (William) Gott of Westerville, Ohio, and Kent (Patricia) Patterson of Westfield Center, Ohio.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jordan Garrison and Dr. Kathleen Boyle of the Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Dennis Helmuth of Wooster.

  14. As a child, she played with friends in the City Park below her house. She told her mother that she couldn’t understand why anyone would walk, if they could run! She carried that same innocence throughout her life, all the while enriching the lives of all around her. She loved being a mother to her own children, and her many exchange students from around the world. She would have been a wonderful grandmother. Life will never be the same.

  15. YOUR SMILE IS THE SUN

Your smile is the sun that warms me.
I bathe in the miracle of light because you beam.
Dance in your yellow fields in Summer.
Sing in your red Fall and jump into your Spring.
    When winter is heavy,
you are the silver lining on cloud nine
    where I escape to rest.
When pain brings a stream of tears.
I focus on your rainbow above the mountain’s crest.
I’ll travel to distant moons when stars no longer shine.
Only to realize there’s never been a stronger love.
    Your love is unconditional.
    Your love…
    Divine.
