WEST SALEM “ Esther S. Horst, 97, of West Salem passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Ohio ™s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster.
She was born in Mahoning County on June 27, 1923 the daughter of Ezra and Susie Horst Knopp.   She married Henry Horst on February 25, 1945.   He preceded her in death on February 5, 1999.
Esther was a caretaker who always took every opportunity to care for others, whether in their home or through relief projects.   She was a member of the Chester Mennonite Church.   Esther was a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her children Naomi (Everett) Lehman of Columbiana, Lloyd (Carol) Horst of West Salem, Pauline (Max) Beachy of New Bedford and Leona Horst of West Salem; grandchildren Joe (Debbie) Lehman, Stephen (Charlsi) Lehman, Ethan Horst, Jason (Mindy) Horst, Kevin (Lindsey) Beachy, Brent (Kara) Beachy and Sara Beachy; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Harvey Weaver and many nieces and nephews locally and in Canada.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, a great-grandson and siblings David, Ida, Emma, John and Mabel.
Friends will be received at the Chester Mennonite Church, 4730 Rutt Road, Wooster on Monday, September 7, 2020 from 9-11:00 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following with Mr. Paul Zimmerman officiating.   Burial will follow in the Eight Square Cemetery.   Masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Ohio ™s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to the Mennonite Central Committee.

  2. So sorry to learn of your Mom’s passing. I felt like she was part of our family when she was helping to take care of Grandma & Grandpa Firestone. Such a caring person. We are still using the kitchen cabinets your Dad made. May your fond memories comfort you all at this time.
