James (Jim) Fredrick Snyder, age 74, passed away on November 14, 2020 of Alzheimer ™s Disease, surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 25, 1945 to parents Mary Jane Woodward and Robert Fredrick Snyder (both deceased). Throughout his life, he remained the family ™s favorite Christmas present.  Jim was raised north of Wooster with his two brothers, Richard (Rick) (deceased) and Terry, along with their spouses, Diana and Judy. He is also survived by caring brothers-in-law Paul (Norma Jean) Pinnicks and Roger (Sandy) Pinnicks, and numerous nieces, nephews and many loving cousins.
Jim married his high school sweetheart Dorothy (Dottie) Cay Pinnicks in 1965 (she survives). They enjoyed 55 years of undeniable commitment and love to one another. The two are proud parents of Deborah Snyder Welch (married to James) of Westport, CT and Douglas James Snyder (married to Beth) of Seville, OH who share wonderful memories with their dad from showing steers at the county fair to water skiing at Lake Buckhorn when they were young. Most of all, they are deeply appreciative for the amazing life that he worked so hard to provide for them.
He leaves behind the joys of his life: granddaughter Nicole Woodward Welch, age 21 at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and grandson Luke James Welch, age 19 at Boston College.   œPapa, as the two called him, touched their lives in so many ways. Regardless of the distance, they always managed to be together for holidays and special occasions. He modeled for them a strong Midwestern work ethic, a devotion to family and friends, and conviction to treat all people with fairness and respect-something they will never forget.  But most importantly, they felt Papa ™s unconditional love.
Jim ™s hard work and ambition drove  him to start and grow Snyder Excavating in Wooster, where he claimed all of his employees as family. His legacy of loyalty and helpful demeanor gained him much success.
After 32 years, Jim retired and spent time traveling cross-country and globally with Dottie and his family. The highlight of his retirement was the purchase of a 107 acre gentleman ™s farm, which he manicured from a jungle of downed trees into a park-like setting. The purchase brought Jim full circle from his childhood farm days and certainly became his œHappy Place.
The family will be forever grateful to the staff at Brookdale Memory Care Center and their Hospice team for taking such good care of Jim in his final stages.
Cremation has taken place. Out of caution, there will be no calling hours or funeral service, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends. It is hoped that all who knew Jim remember his infectious smile!
In lieu of flowers, please celebrate Jim ™s life with memorial gifts to The Wayne County Community Foundation (517 N Market St, Wooster, OH 44691) or Central Christian Church (407 N Market St., Wooster, OH 44691).
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home (216 E. Larwill St, Wooster) is honored with serving the family.

  14. So sorry, Dottie, Deb, Doug. Jim was a wonderful man, business man, and I’m sure an exceptional husband and father. He taught me a lot in the construction business and my career still today is successful because of Jim’s inspiration to me. I always admired Jim’s golden touch into anything he ensued. Will miss him dearly. Love you all. Charlie

My most heartfelt sympathy and prayers to you! May your loving memories give you peace and bring a smile to your face – as the memory of Jim’s “boyish” grin and chuckle bring a smile to mine! I was blessed to have gotten to know you all during my years working for Chesterland. May the Lord bless and comfort you!
