Sigel Glenn ( Sig ) Stocker, 89, of Wooster passed away peacefully on Friday November 5, 2021.
Sig was born October 28, 1932 to Glenn and Kathryn Stocker in Dennison, OH. After completing his Bachelor s degree from The Ohio State University, he married the love of his life, Mabel Karling on August 8, 1954. They travelled together as he served as a photograph interpreter for the U.S. Air Force from which he was honorably discharged many years later with the rank of Captain.
Sig worked for several years on the family dairy farm, he was 4-H agent in Wayne County and Tuscarawas County before he returned to The Ohio State University to earn his Master s degree then PhD in bovine genetics. He worked for OSU as Director of freshman advisors for the College of Agriculture until 1978 when he moved to Wooster to develop the Dairy program at OSU ATI. He retired from Ohio State as Professor Emeritus. Later he worked as a research assistant for Technology Unlimited in Wooster.
Nothing was more important in life for Sig than his family and he found great joy in being involved in the lives of his children and later grandchildren. He attended more musical productions, speeches and sporting events than you could count. He was a great storyteller and no matter what the situation, he had a story that would relate. He and Mabel enjoyed traveling and visited all 48 continental states in their RV. They also enjoyed Ohio State football and used their season tickets for over 40 years.
Sig is survived by his wife, Mabel, children Eric (Sara) Stocker of Amherst, Kurt (Theresa) Stocker of Greenwood, IN, Amy (Barry) Jolliff of Wooster, Jon (Brenda) Stocker of Elida and Karl (Lori) Stocker of Ellington, CT, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and his sister Sue Romig.
Sig was preceded in death by his parents and infant son Adam.
Memorial service is planned for 11:00 AM on Saturday November 27, 2021 at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E Larwill St., Wooster with Rev. Paul Lintern officiating.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Our ATI dairy program is still going strong because of the great foundation he laid.
So very sorry to hear of Mr. Stocker’s passing. I remember his mischievous smile and the twinkle in his eyes as he began to tell a story.
Mr. Stocker was such a kind man. He was my bus driver. His parent’s farm was not far from my grandparent’s farm in Dennison and he was always there at harvest time. I had no idea he went on to such greatness, but it doesn’t surprise me. His parents were so proud of him. My deepest sympathy.

I’m so sorry for your loss of a great man. I will always be grateful for the foundation that Sig provided to the Ohio State ATI Dairy program. This foundation made my life much easier after I replaced him as dairy program coordinator at ATI when he retired. I will always remember the great advice that he gave me as I started my career at ATI. His help to me started even before I started my employment at ATI as he showed me around, took me to graduation, and shared the challenges that I would be facing. He also introduced me to many key individuals in the dairy industry. I was even invited for dinner at your home during the time that I was looking for a house for my family in Wooster. I was hoping to attend the memorial service on Saturday, November 27; but may not be able to as my son and I have Ohio State and Michigan game tickets for the “Big House” on that day. What a fitting tribute to Sig to have the memorial service 1 hour before the Ohio State – Michigan game. Sig’s love for Ohio State football was legendary to me. I had never experienced such devotion to any team until I observed Sig’s. Sig convinced me that I needed to order my OSU faculty football tickets my first year at ATI in 1983. Since then, I have had 38 years of OSU football season tickets. However, for the first 20 years or so, Sig purchased my tickets from me since life was too busy to for me to attend. Sig always said that I could use my tickets if I desired to even after he purchased them. My first game was sometime during the early 2000s where I meet Barry for the first time in the “Stocker” block of seats. I now attend regularly with my son. Perhaps the family can all watch the Ohio State – Michigan game together after the memorial service.
