APPLE CREEK “ Reda Jane Burkholder, 88, of Apple Creek, died following extended illness on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Brookdale Wooster Senior Living.
She was born in Salt Creek Township on December 5, 1933, to the late C.T. and Irene (Harrison) Swinehart and on August 18, 1957 married James L. Burkholder who preceded her in death in 1996.
She was a 1951 graduate of Apple Creek High School, a member of Apple Creek United Methodist Church, and an active member of various community organizations including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Apple Creek Civic Improvement, American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 147, and the Wayne County and Apple Creek Historical Societies.
She graduated from Wooster Business College and was employed by Whitaker Myer Insurance Company, Southeast Local Schools and the Apple Creek Developmental Center.
Surviving are daughter Laura (Robert) Geiser of Apple Creek, son, Brian (Linda) Martin Burkholder of Harrisonburg, Va, and daughter-in-law, Becky Burkholder of West Salem. Grandchildren Jessika (Aaron) Walton, Ben Geiser, Matthew Geiser, Travis (Bethany) Wyatt, Jana (Steven) Carozza, Jeff (Neely) Burkholder, Sydney Maldonado, and Lane Burkholder; and ten great-grandchildren. She was known to spend quality time with each grandchild creating warm memories.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Dale Burkholder; one grandson, Kyle Michael Burkholder; brother Myron Swinehart, and two sisters, Jeanne Buchwalter and Vida Hofacre.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Apple Creek United Methodist Church. Friends may call two hours prior at the church. Burial will follow in Apple Creek Cemetery. McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Service

  8. Laurie, Brian, and families, we are so sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. She was a wonderful woman who always made us feel welcome in her home as we were growing up. We share your loss of losing a mom. You will miss her greatly but what joy knowing she is now with our Savior and you will see her again someday.

  10. Dear Reba’s Family, wanted to extend my deepest sympathy at her passing. She and my brother Paul traveled around together and were good companions. She was a lovely person and what a beautiful picture above. I regret not sending her cards or visiting her at Brookside. Brother Paul in nursing facility near Richfield Ohio. I admired their spunk to travel together one time to Buffalo NY for a concert. I may have that wrong but a long ways. She led a full, busy life, and now safe in the arms of Jesus.   13. I met Reda while I was working at Dale James Ford in Apple Creek (she was a customer). She was a lovely, gracious lady. I am so sorry for your loss. Lifting prayers for comfort and peace.
