œTogether Again
Iona Marie Harris transcended into Heaven on Thursday, May 26, 2022 with her daughter & caregiver Mary by her side. She has been reunited with her beloved, Jim, her first born, Linda Joyce, and many other family and friends. She is survived by her son James W. Harris, Jr. (Lisa Cherry) of Wooster, daughter Mary Nolletti (Tom) of Wooster, granddaughter Lindsay Miller (Aaron) of Jeromesville, and grandson CJ Harris (Amanda) of Doylestown, great-grandsons Jett and Jace Miller, and Clayton Harris. Her oldest sister Alma, and youngest sister, Joyce, both of Maryland also are survived. She is also survived by her longtime friend, Cathy Reardon of Mansfield and her family who thought of Iona as a grandmother.
Iona was born to Cleveland and Elizabeth Costley in Niles, Ohio on March 12, 1929. She was 93. Iona was one of seven children; Alma, Ardelle, Cleveland, Arthur, Vera, & Joyce.
Iona graduated from Unidis High in W. Milford, WV in 1947. On June 8th, 1951, Iona married James W. Harris, Sr., on the campus of Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, which they both attended. Iona received her Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in 1952. Later, Iona received her Master of Arts in Teaching degree (MAT) from the College of Wooster in 1972.
Locally, Iona taught 1st grade at Shreve Elementary for one year before teaching 7th & 8th grade English at West Holmes Jr. High (25yrs.) until retiring at age 65. Her entire teaching career was 40 years.
Iona accepted Christ as her Savior as a child (age 10), and never swayed from being a devoted follower of Christ. She prayed fervently and studied the bible daily. Iona was always a teacher of God ™s word with knowledge and accuracy; even as recent as last month when asked to lead a bible study on Satan from her church. She was an expert on Old and New Testament prophecy. She wrote many notes and writings on Bible Prophecy, the Rapture, the Tribulation, the Millennium Kingdom, and the New Heaven & New Earth. She always had the opinion that preachers should have more sermons on these subjects to ensure that people are aware of the future and the importance of securing their eternity in Heaven with Christ. Iona was a member of North Wooster Baptist Church, Lincoln Heights Baptist (Mansfield), Hanley Road Baptist, where Jim pastored in Mansfield, Westwood Baptist (Wooster) and other Baptist churches in other states where they lived.
Iona loved family time, pets, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing (made many quilts, clothing, and the dress in the photo), cross-stitch, traveling (saw 49 states), camping, reading, music, radio (rarely watched TV), flowers, bird watching and lighthouses.
Services will be Tuesday, June 7th, at 11:00 am, at North Wooster Baptist Church, 2315 Star Dr., Wooster with Rev. Jamie Rickard officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am.
