Arden Dean Boyer, 94, of Wooster, Ohio passed away peacefully at home, July 22, 2022

He was born July 2, 1928 in Wooster, the son of Orris and Helen Houser Boyer. He married the love of his life Frances Markley Boyer on June 22, 1958.

Arden was a very talented craftsman who could literally fix, design, or make anything. He and his son rebuilt the Kister Mill wooden water wheel using the original pattern allowing a piece of history to live on. He built the three houses where he and Frances raised their family, along with helping to build several houses in Wooster. His love of aviation lead to he and his wife owning their own plane to fly. They enjoyed traveling and exploring domestically and abroad with family, friends, and as a couple. Most of all he appreciated and loved being with his family. The fact that he was not a negative person and had a curiosity about things contributed to his length and quality of life.

Prior to retiring Arden worked for the city for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Oak Chapel United Methodist Church where he served many roles over the years. He was a lifelong loyal friend to many in the community.  One such close group of friends, “The Cabin Boys”, made it a point every year for over fifty years, along with their spouses, to reunite for a New Year’s dinner party. Arden was great at telling stories of fond memories and was truly witty to the end. He fully loved, enjoyed, and was proud of his wife, 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and marveled at his 2 great grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by friends and family. Surviving are his children, Sharon DeFelice of Greenville, S.C. (Greg DeFelice); Care’n Smith of Ohio (Frank Smith); Richard Boyer of Wooster, Ohio (Cyndi Boyer). Four grandchildren: Candace DeFelice Horne (Rodney); Amanda DeFelice; Cameron Boyer; Erica Boyer. Great grandchildren Adelyn and Annalee Horne. Brother Lloyd Boyer of Wooster.

Arden was preceded in death by wife, Frances. Sister Ann Nielson and brother Elton (Bud) Boyer.

He will receive a final salute from his older brother Lloyd, as well as his brothers in arms with the 555th Honors Detachment during the Thursday, July 28, 2022. The honor guard, known as Triple Nickel, “triple” which comes from the three Boyer brothers, will provide military honors. Arden proudly participated and paid respect for years in these military ceremonies.

A memorial service celebration of his life will be held at Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, 4203 West Lincoln Way, Wooster, Ohio. This will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 6:30 pm. With Pastor John Finn officiating. A dessert fellowship will follow the service.

  2. When I first met Arden, we served together on the American Legion Firing Squad some thirty years ago. The world has lost one of the gentlest kindness men I know. He was a blessing to all that knew him.
