Janet Gail McCombs passed away peacefully on September 17, 2022 at the age of 79.  She was a talented, intelligent, humorous, generous and gregarious sister, aunt and friend.

After graduating from Marion Harding High School in 1960, her desire to share her love of music led her to Ohio University where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in piano and flute and to Cleveland State University where she received her Master of Music in piano performance and music history.  Throughout her career, she impacted the lives of many children teaching instrumental music in the Cleveland Public Schools and also giving private lessons.  She was a pianist with the Cleveland Philharmonic orchestra and a flutist with the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra.

Janet loved everything Scottish, traveling with friends and family, vacations at the Outer Banks, retirement in a custom built log home at Lake Buckhorn in Millersburg, OH, playing Brahms and Chopin on her grand piano and also enjoying the company of several dogs she loved over the years.

Janet was born in 1942 in Marion, OH to Robert William McCombs and Doris Elizabeth (Wheaton) McCombs James.  They proceeded her in death as well as step-father Glen Willard James.  She leaves behind sisters Merrill Beth Bender (Bill) and Nan Lorraine Klempnauer, niece Brittany Haske, nephew Christopher Yeoman, great niece Brianna Haske, friend of the heart Lynne Seikel and many friends.

Although she lived with chronic pain and limited mobility for many years, she maintained a strong will to live and concern for others.

  2. I was just thinking about her and decided to look her up. She was an AMAZING instructor being able to teach students how to play each instrument. She taught me how to play the clarinet at Orchard. A true talent!
