Mary Eleanor Rehm, 90, of Smithville passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the Ohio State Medical Center.

She was born to Orrin H. and Eleanor Sutton Stahl in Wayne County on February 22, 1932.  She married Daniel L. Rehm on October 3, 1953 in Smithville.  He preceded her in death in 2018.

She graduated from Wooster High School in 1950 and the Cleveland City Hospital School of Nursing in 1953.  Mary was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Smithville, a member of the Smithville Historical Society, Wayne County Historical Society, Valley College, County, State and National Grange, Helping Hand Homemakers Club and the Wooster Wayne Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She previously had been a 4-H advisor and a Wayne County Election Poll Worker.  She shared her love of sewing with the ladies of St. Paul Church by making quilts for Lutheran World Relief and those who were in need of a warm blanket in the local community.

Mary is survived by her children Barbara (Gary) Zumbiel of Florence, KY, Alvin (Lisa) Rehm of Wooster and James (Laurie) Rehm of Smithville; grandchildren Orry (Melissa) Zumbiel, Nathan (Gwendolyn) Rehm, Aaron (Haverly Snyder) Rehm, Nicholas (Karli Schuch) Rehm, Hannah Jo (Patrick) Barrios and Adam (Nessa) Rehm; great-grandchildren Emerson and Coledyn Rehm and Ella Zumbiel.

Along with her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Chester Stahl.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 777 S. Summit St., Smithville with Pastor Kristy Buyok officiating.   Inurnment of both Mary and Daniel will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.

Friends will be received 10:00AM until the time of service at the church.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 777 S. Summit St., Smithville, OH 44677 or to the Wayne County Community Foundation c/o Pillars of St. Paul Fund 517 N. Market St., Wooster, OH 44691.

  4. So sorry to hear this. My mother, Kathleen Pearce Straits was so happy to have lunch with Mary, an old friend, a few months ago. Just recently Mom was looking forwared to go see her again, after she heals from her hip replacement, a month ago.
