Vilet H. Burkey, 84 beloved wife of Wm. Terry Burkey passed away suddenly December 17, 2022 in Punta Gorda Florida.

Vilet was born to Vilas and Gladys H. (Shamp) Sommer in Honeytown, Ohio.

Vilet lived her entire life in Wayne County. She was in the first graduating class of Waynedale HS then worked as a legal secretary until her daughter came along and made her quit.

Vilet loved to play golf and later, managed the golf course on Middle Bass Island. Vi enjoyed every bit of life and was known to tell jokes and pull pranks. Vi loved spending summers on MBI and having family stop in.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, children, Tymothy Burkey of Rio Rancho, NM and Tamara (Marlin Maddy) Burkey of Silverthorne of CO; 5 grandchildren, Aja Carver, Douglas, Carl, Drew and Maggie Burkey; 1 great-granddaughter Angelina; sister Regina (Harvey) Jacobs of Orrville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by grandson, TJ Burkey, parents and step-father Myron “Sparky” Mullen.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday Dec 27, 2022 at 1 pm at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster. Burial at East Union Cemetery.

Visitation from 11:00AM until time of service at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to Middle Bass Island Fire and EMS 455 Fox, Middle Bass, OH 43446

  2. My sincere sympathy to you, Terry, and to your family. You probably don’t remember me, but Larry Pittman was my husband. He went to school at Mt. Eaton, then Apple Creek. I remember your beautiful Vilet, even though I went to school at Dalton.
    My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family during this difficult time.

  6. My sincere sympathy to the families of Vilet. Terry and Vilet had such a loving relationship and I know that she will be very missed. I am sorry that this had to happen at this difficult time of the year. Regina, and Harvey, and the rest of the family, may comfort and healing be yours. Praying you all will cherish memories that make you smile again.

  9. Sad that your family is again struggling with a major loss. I know your Christmas will not be the holiday you wanted. You are surrounded by love and those who knew and loved Vilet. She certainly left all who knew her with wonderful memories to cherish. Holding you in my

  11. What a great good lady and friend. You will be (and are) missed so much. Been a friend since Tym played Little League Baseball and Tammy was In Grade School at Madisonburg. Oh those were the days. Lots of fun memories.
