Janice Elaine Browne, 75, of Wooster died on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at her home.

She was born February 26, 1947 in Lodi to Walter and Marie O’Hail Johnson.

Janice retired in 2015 from Ida Sue School where she had worked as a Paraprofessional for many years.  Her favorite vacation spot was Lakeside where she loved to fly kites.  She also enjoyed archery, cooking, baking and was an amazing crafter and sewer.  Janice had a strong Christian faith and formerly attended the Church of the Savior.

She is survived by her children Richard (Sadie) Browne of Perrysburg and Amy (Ed Huemmrich) Browne of Vermilion; grandchildren Mason Steiner of Marshallville and Flynn Browne of Perrysburg; life partner John Barcus of Wooster and her furry companion Bailey the Miniature Schnauzer.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Marquita Topovski, Louise Boreman-Gilbert, Joyce Christman and Marjorie Guenther.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 5:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St. Wooster.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

  6. We are sad to learn of the passing of your mother. I still make her famous cheesecake. The one she baked so many times for dinners Wooster football moms prepared for the team. I’ll always remember her humor and generous spirit. And her love for her children. Love you Richard and Amy.

  9. Mrs Browne was a special lady. I fondly remember her making cheeseburgers for us after playing basketball in the driveway or hanging out at the house while Richard did our Physics homework.
    She also picked me up on the way to middle school after I missed the bus and my mom made me walk 4 miles from out of town. She was one of those moms that paid attention and made sure to care for all the kids and not just her own. She will be missed.
