Eloise Marie Thorley Snoddy, 95, of Wooster died on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, after a brief illness.

She was born on the family farm on August 29, 1927, to Omar and Ruth Weaver Thorley.  She grew up and lived most of her life near New Pittsburg.  She attended Chester High School and was an ardent lifelong Husky fan.  She and her husband had basketball season tickets for many years.

She married Roy Junior Snoddy on November 21, 1944, in New Pittsburg.  They were married for 66 years until his death on February 5, 2011.  Eloise was the sole caretaker of Roy for 12 years after his stroke.

Eloise often said, “I’m the daughter of a farmer and the wife of a farmer.” But this doesn’t tell you the whole story. Eloise and Roy ran their dairy farm for decades as partners.  She kept the records and helped milk cows, drive the tractor, and make decisions. They worked hard and loved farming.

She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandma.  She was loving, funny, generous, and kind.  She always remembered birthdays and special occasions by sending cards, and often hosted family reunions and holiday events.

Besides her family and farm, the church was extremely important to her.  She was a lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in New Pittsburg.  She played the piano for Sunday School, starting as a teenager, and was the church choir director for over 40 years.  Eloise also taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent, was on church council, and held many leadership roles.

Eloise is survived by her children Barbara Ann Price of Langdon, NH, Keith Roy (Rebecca) Snoddy of South Portland, ME, and Daniel David (Chris) Snoddy of Athens, OH; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and a sister Mary Sue (Walter) Besancon along with many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Roly Price, and siblings Wanda McKinstry, Joanne Mead, David Thorley, and an infant brother Omar Thorley, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 9451 Ashland Rd., Wooster with Pastor Stephanie Woods officiating.  Interment will follow in New Pittsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

Contributions may be directed to St. Peters Lutheran Church, 9451 Ashland Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.

  4. MY DEEPEST LOVE and COLDOLENCES to ALL THE GREAT SNODDY FAMILY, REALATIVES AND FRIENDS!

Elosie (I always called her “Loise” cause of my speech as a child) and ALL the Family and the McKinstry (Wanda’s & Jr.’s Family) were the best of friends with my parents, and my family.
I always LOVED to talking with her and sister, Wanda, and I do know which one had the more gumption for us kids. She was really something!
Either Loise or Wanda often would say to me as a child “Jimmy, you’re reall a pickle”. I think that might sum up her brightness in life.
I know when my Dad, Dr Appleman, DVM would go to thier house to assist with the fam animals, she and Roy always had such very positive spirits

Every since moving to MAINE, I would always be writing to her, if she was the fist one to write about a holiday! We really loved Christmas cards, and others I would send her.
When she became much elderly (aftre moving into Wooster off the farm at New Pittsburg), I told Loise not to worry about writing as it was a lot for her to do. I’II will write to you:
& “Don’t you forget it!” or you can bugg me!. I told her to contact me if I did not write, and she did not have to do so!. I was obedient for her.

Gosh, GOD KNOWS for certain I could write load of things, and I think you should really know she was one of GOD’S PEOPLE, as is the family.

SHE IS NOW AT PEACE WITH ROY, PLUS her sister, WANDA AND OTHER SIBLINGS + HER SUPER MOM!! I never know her Dad, that I recall.

GOD’S LOVE to “LOUISE” (or Eloise)
For ME: She & Wanda were the greatest for this little boy (Jimmy).

  5. Thinking of Elouises family ,and sending our thoughts and prayers. I have good memories of being in the Church choir , and having Mrs. Snoddy, trying to keep all of us in line, there was always a lot of laughing going on.I use to sell 50/50 tickets at the Northwestern basket ball games, and Eloise use to get a chuckle out of me trying to talk Roy out of a dollar, for a ticket . I never got that dollar. RIP my friend

  11. I have known Eloise all of my life. Walt and I were her next door neighbors. We shared many memories serving on many committees but especially singing in the choir or accompanying on the organ. One of our former pastors said that the choir was the best in the country!! Eloise was so patient. She dealt with the ornery ones with a smile. She was a great director and got a lot of beautiful music out of us. My sympathy goes out to her whole family.

  13. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. She was a special lady. We learned to know her as a customer at The Neighborhood Pantry. We loved when she came in. She usually had some piece of history to share with us. She fussed about losing her license and about moving, but in the end would agree that you all just wanted the best for her. We really missed her after she moved. She always loved to see the children when she came…. She reminded me allot of my own grandma.

  14. Eloise was an inspiration to me and for as long as I could, I took the stewardship of caring for their farm in the way they did. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a spring in her step. My condolences to your family.
