Clayton E. “Clay” Mowrer, 84, of Wooster passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at his residence.
He was born February 19, 1938 in Wooster, the son of Elden and Florence Harbaugh Mowrer. On July 10, 1960 he married Winnetta “Marie” Schmid. She survives.
In his younger days, Clay volunteered with the U.S. Army National Guard. Later, he started the business “Mowrer Floor Covering” as owner/operator and ran it for 30 years before retiring in 2003. Clay loved fishing and being in the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, and spending time fishing at Round Lake Christian Camp. He also loved bowling. Through the years he played softball and even sponsored a softball team. He enjoyed his morning coffee gatherings with his friends at the Marathon Station near the fairgrounds. Clay was a member at Blachleyville Church of Christ where he served as an Elder. He was active in mission trips, with trips taken to Haiti and Colombia. Clay was a past member of the Westwood Ruitan Club. He was a man who loved his family dearly. Spending time with his children, and grandchildren was important to him. He truly enjoyed the grandchildren’s sporting events – he never missed one.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Pam (Chuck) Boreman and Wendy (Steve) Alexander – both of Wooster; grandchildren Cody (Ashley Powers) Boreman, Luke (Mallary) Boreman, and Emily Alexander; and a great-grandson Zayne Boreman; step-grandson Bailey (Sarah) Alexander; and step-great-grandchildren Camden Alexander and Kenley Alexander.
In addition to his parents, Clay was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter Laura Anne Alexander; and his brothers Larry Mowrer, Rod Mowrer, and Al Mowrer.
A private family service will be held with Pastor Dan Kirtlan officiating.
