Mabel Virginia Stocker, age 90, died Wednesday February 1st after a brief illness.

Mabel was born to Arthur and Edna Karling on August 6, 1932 in Dover Township, Ohio. She graduated from Dover High School after completing the first eight years of her education in a one room schoolhouse. She married the love of her life, Sigel Stocker on August 8, 1954.

While her favorite job was as Attendance and Registrar for Wooster High School, she also worked as a school bus driver, receptionist for an OB/Gyn physician, and secretary for Lightening Class Sailboats. Mabel felt volunteer work was extremely important and dedicated years to the Ohio Extension Homemakers, eventually serving as President. She also sewed for Wooster Community Hospital, served as a 4-H advisor, hosted IFEY youth and served in many other ways.

Mabel would tell you her greatest accomplishment was raising five good children. She enjoyed her job as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Always making time to attend activities and events. Sig and Mabel enjoyed traveling and visited all 48 continental states in their RV. They also enjoyed Ohio State football and used their season tickets for over 40 years.

Mabel is survived by her children Eric (Sara) Stocker of Amherst, Kurt (Theresa) Stocker of Greenwood, IN, Amy (Barry) Jolliff of Wooster, Jon (Brenda) Stocker of Elida and Karl (Lori) Stocker of Ellington, CT, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, her sister Carol Grey and brother Charles Karling.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sigel and infant son Adam.

Memorial services are planned for Sunday February 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E Larwill St., Wooster.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mom was not a fan of flowers at funerals, in lieu her family would be pleased for donations to be made to the Ohio Light Opera, c/o The College of Wooster, 1189 Beall Ave., Wooster, OH 44691 or Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.

    She was devoted to her family, and lived a life of service to them and her community.

  3. Amy…..Losing our loved ones is never easy regardless of their age or health conditions. Our sincere condolences to you and your whole family. While we didn’t know your mother, it sounds like she was involved not only in her family’s lives, but also had many other interests in her life.

  4. We were so sad to hear of Mabel’s passing. I always remember her from the Vermillion Farm pig roast as a lovely, and lively “older cousin”. I know her family meant the world to her , and that she meant the world to all of you! It’s hard to lose a parent and grandparent no matter their age. Please accept our condolences.
