Andrew “Andy” Joseph Kobilarcsik, 80, of Wooster died on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at OSU East in Columbus.

He was born February 7, 1943 in Kansas City, MO to Andrew A. and Loraine A. Cook Kobilarcsik.  On September 16, 2006, he married Heather Maxwell.  She survives.

Andy honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Andy had worked as an auditor and auditor’s supervisor for the State of Ohio for over 30 years.  He also worked for White Jewelers.  He enjoyed golfing and fishing.  For over 45 years, he enjoyed going down to Cambridge and hunting at a friend’s property.  Andy was a very involved grandpa attending many of his grandkid’s activities.

He was a member of the Wooster High School class of 1961.  While in high school, he was a member of the football team, wrestling team and track team.  There were only 2 wrestling state champions in Wooster’s history. Andy was the first state wrestling champion He was undefeated. He continued to be involved with wrestling as a coach.  As a member of the football team, Andy was a member of the 1960 squad, which is the only undefeated and untied team in Wooster High School history.  He played in the running back position and the defensive end position.  The Wooster and the Orrville football teams were undefeated. The score in the 4th quarter was tied 12 to 12. Andy carried the ball over 60 yards for the winning touchdown. The finale score Wooster 18 and Orrville 12.  He was in the charter class of the Wooster High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Andy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #68 for 48 years, the Wooster Elks and the Wooster Exchange Club.

Along with his wife, Heather, he is survived by his daughters Denise (Steve) Cherry of Clermont, FL and Andrea (Eric) Caskey of Orrville; grandchildren Rachel and Jonathon Cherry, Eric, Drew, Dylan, Evan and Brayden Caskey; siblings Pat (Joe) Kropp of Cincinnati, Loann Hilty of Mt. Sterling, Kathy Miller of Kansas City, KS, Jim Kobilarcsik of Kansas City, MO and Joe Kobilarcsik of Lenexa, KS; aunt (who was raised with him like a sister) Judy (Jack) Fisher of Columbus; mother-in-law Chell Maxwell of Akron and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Steve Miller; sister-in-law Cindy Kobilarcsik and father-in-law Robert W. Maxwell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 21, 2023 at 10:00AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Avenue, Wooster.  Inurnment will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.

Friends will be received March 20, 2023 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

    He was a good dad to his Children and Grandchildren. His will be greatly missed.

  9. What a great man he was indeed. He walked this earth with dignity and honor. He served our country well. Butch personally showed me love, shared endless stories (some true, some not so true), always had me laughing when I probably shouldn’t have been. I loved this sweet man with all my heart and soul. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to the entire family. To his amazing grandchildren…..make your grandpa proud! ❤️

  25. Butch was my best buddy as I grew up. He visited my mom & dad, Ken & Carol Bauer and would rock me when I was an infant. And I, in turn would rock his firstborn, Denise. He was one of my dad’s dearest friends. My heart is heavy – so many wonderful memories. I heard plenty of stories of my dad, Butch & Donny Plant’s shenanigans! Prayers for the family.
