James W. Hites, 68 of Wooster, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.

He was born January 12, 1955 in Millersburg the son of Howard W. and Ruth Pyers Hites.

James was an auto mechanic and a standard bred horse groomer for Kurt Sugg Stable.  He was a member of Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association.  James enjoyed fishing, dirt track races, grooming standard bred horses and books, especially Louis L’Amour westerns.

He is survived by his children Billie Jo Clair of Wooster, James W. (Kristen) Hites, Jr. of Massillon and Daniel K. Hites of Shreve; brothers William Hites of Florida, Charles (Carol) Hites of Goshen, IN; sister Teresa Fulk of Wolf Lake, IN; sister in law Mary Hites of Wooster; grandchildren Landon James Hites, Hunter Gary Hites, Aaron Hites and Christi (John) Groah; special nephew Shane Hites of West Salem; special great great niece Joselynn “Pickle” Hall; special family friends Willard Hershberger, Kim Fox, Wayne and Carol Smith all of Wooster and  several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Anna Williams and Doris Hites; brothers Harold and Gary Hites; life partner Rita Patterson.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 3:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral cost.

  5. My heart is so broken. Who am I going to call everyday? You are now at peace. I’ll make sure I take the pickle fishing. We will be thinking of you and I know a dragonfly will be seen. RIP Jimmie Jimmie till I see you again.

  6. Thank you Jimmie… thank you for being you. Thank you for giving me your wonderful son to love. Thank you for giving me two awesome children. Thank you, for all those nights that you’d take my catfish off of the pole. Thank you for always fixing my fishing rod when I’d get it tangled or need to change hooks. Thank you for not letting me leave the hospital all those nights without a hug, kiss and an “I love you kiddo”. We always teased that I wanted to marry a man like Little Joe from Bonanza and all I got was a Little Jimmie. Turns out, I’m more than okay with that. I know you’re resting peacefully now. I promise you’re legacy will live on.
