  2. May I offer my deepest condolences to Opal’s family and friends as they mourn her passing. Opal was a dear, dear friend of my mother’s. Her name was Anita Thomason Spahr. Mom was born in Apple Creek, Oct 31, 1924. She spoke so many times of Opal. When my mother was in the WAC, she was assigned the duty of sending notifications of draftees into WWII. She had to send Kenneth his draft notification and it broke her heart that it was her close friend’s boyfriend at the time. This was the memory that sticks in my mind, but there were so many more that she spoke of. It was a long time ago and I just can’t recall them anymore. May she rest in peace. Sincerely, Karen Spahr Shear
